Sigma: New, greener logistics platform will prevent stock loss

Sigma Pharmaceuticals has announced a partnership with a logistics technology company that the wholesaler claims will prevent inventory loss and deliver environmental and cost-saving benefits.

Sigma said its decision to use the “first of its kind” BoxxDocks platform would give it access to “real time data on asset location and movement,” which it said “can significantly enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs by optimising asset utilisation and minimising loss”.

“This solution not only addresses the critical issue of inventory loss but also paves the way for cost savings and environmental benefits,” said Sigma, with the “enhanced security” for in-transit enabling greater reliance on reusable assets instead of single-use cardboard and plastic.

Sigma procurement and innovation officer Rajiv Shah told P3pharmacy: “We’re excited to announce our ground-breaking collaboration with BoxxDocks. Their cutting-edge tracking technology doesn’t just enhance our sustainability efforts, it revolutionises how we operate, ensuring smoother processes for our customers.

“This partnership is more than just about going green; it’s about delivering excellence and efficiency to our valued pharmacy partners.”

Mr Shah said the partnership would help the company meet NHS net zero targets, explaining: “By having the ability to track our assets, we’ll be able to minimise our environmental footprint by significantly reducing single-use materials cutting down on the use of disposable packaging while streamlining our distribution processes.”

BoxxDocks CEO Alessandro Attanzio said his company has a “mission to help enhance B2B distribution,” commenting: “We’re delighted to be working with Sigma Pharmaceuticals, which is a forward-thinking company with a passion for innovation that rivals our own.

“We look forward to continuing our journey of innovation together, demonstrating a model of best practice for pharma distribution/”
